ELLEN METZGER O'SHEA - Oil

The horizon always appears in my work even as I move more into abstraction. My goal in painting is to take the 'glue' out of the landscape as I search for

the essence of the sky, clouds, fields, hills and trees.

Each new day in my studio brings me closer to the soul of the landscape as I search for my essence.

I have been painting since my early studio classes at Nazareth College in Rochester, NY and later at the State University of New York at New Paltz.

Studying with Alex Martin, noted Hudson Valley painter, introduced me to 'plein air' landscape painting.

In the nineties I worked with Stuart Diamond, a New York City based painter and teacher at Columbia University and began using collage and photo transfer in my work.

Most recently I have studied with Tim Hawkesworth, Philadelphia based painter and teacher at Mass College of Art.
