Once an idea has gelled, she relies on intuition and improvisation; engrossed in the process, she lets the work take her where it needs to go. Deborah’s palette includes commercial fabrics as well as cloth she creates herself using dyeing, felting, discharging, and stitching techniques in her home studio. She relishes the layering and embellishment of diverse materials that fiber collage encourages, utilizing both the seamed edge and the frayed edge as design elements, laying in stitching by machine and by hand, and combining fiber with paint, ink, gesso, digital imagery, printing and found objects.
