Bein’s award-winning textile collage work has been exhibited nationally and internationally in art quilt and fine art venues and is held in private collections in the USA and Europe; her work has been recently exhibited in juried and invitational exhibits in New York state and the Hudson Valley, including the ArtBar Gallery, Kingston, and Barrett House Gallery, Poughkeepsie. Deborah resides in the beautiful and inspiring Hudson River Valley.
ideology, current events, architecture, linguistics and cliches, which she then abstracts into visual designs to define her message. Once an idea has gelled, she relies on intuition and improvisation; engrossed in the process, she lets the work take her where it needs to go. Deborah’s palette includes commercial fabrics as well as cloth she creates herself using dyeing, felting, discharging, and stitching techniques in her home studio. She relishes the layering and embellishment of diverse materials that fiber collage encourages, utilizing both the seamed edge and the frayed edge as design elements, laying in stitching by machine and by hand, and combining fiber with paint, ink, gesso, digital imagery, printing and found objects.
