At first glance these artist couldn't be more different.
Ed the globe trotting international businessman, spouting in his wake a stream of imaginative surreal imagery that defies comparison. He considers the work in this show to be a new beginning; stemming as it does from a period of personal and professional turbulence. The successful negotiation of these difficulties shows in the release of creative and inventive exuberance of the paintings.
Staats, Watercolor teacher at the Woodstock School of art for 27 years is showing Landscape and Still Lives. He is the exponent of the minimal statement, the visual haiku and these new works from Staats, exhibit his technical mastery and radiate the universal silence in the particular.
Ed and Staats have worked together for over 15 years, exchanging ideas and experimenting with the ideas of painting.
Both have changed through the experience yet they remain entirely themselves.
