:: artist's statement

Robert Hastings was born in Birmingham, England in 1943. He graduated from Saint Andrews Church of England Secondary School in 1959, and moved to London where he apprenticed himself in the building trade. During the next twelve years, he primarily worked renovating old houses.

In 1973, he immigrated to the United States and settled in New York City where he began fine cabinetry and furniture making. His pieces are interpretations of furniture and other objects. His skills at restoring antiques are put to use on his present objects, which include collage and photographic constructions. He now has a workshop and studio in the town of Clinton, where he also lives.
